Convicted Sex Offender Faces 20 Years in Prison

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA

A federal jury in Gainesville, Florida, has convicted 36-year-old Matthew Lee Ostrander, a registered sex offender from Missouri, of possession of obscene visual depictions of minors. The conviction follows a 2-day trial that began on Wednesday.

According to court documents, Ostrander knowingly possessed electronic devices that contained over 400 computer-generated images depicting children engaged in sexual activity, including sadistic and masochistic abuse and sexual intercourse with children. His arrest was made in September 2020 for an outstanding warrant from Missouri, and he had also failed to register as a sex offender in the State of Florida at the time.

Ostrander was previously convicted of possession of child pornography on October 18, 2017. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 2, 2022, at 11:00 am, at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville before the Honorable United States District Judge Allen C. Winsor.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, led by Jason R. Coody, United States Attorney, announced the conviction. Assistant United States Attorney Frank Williams prosecuted this case.

The investigation was conducted by the Homeland Security Investigations. Ostrander faces up to 20 years in prison for the possession of obscene visual depictions of minors.
