Hector Omar Segura-Lara, Cocaine Smuggling, Louisiana 2024

New Orleans, Louisiana – Dallas residents Hector Omar Segura-Lara, 35, and Jose Antonio Ortega-Silva, 32, have copped to federal charges, admitting their roles in a major cocaine smuggling operation that netted $152,000.

The duo faced the music after being caught with four kilograms of pure cocaine during a traffic stop on I-12 in Louisiana. Segura-Lara and Ortega-Silva were en route from Dallas to Virginia, where they planned to deliver their drug shipment.

According to court documents, Ortega-Silva confessed to obtaining the Chrysler 200 used in the operation and loading it with drugs at a Houston rendezvous. Their scheme was to drive to Virginia, have someone unload the drugs, and then return to Texas with cash hidden in the car battery. The plan went awry when law enforcement caught them red-handed.

Both defendants are staring down decades in federal prison for their crime, facing up to twenty years behind bars, a $1 million fine, and mandatory supervised release of three years. They also have to shell out a special assessment fee of $100.

This sting operation was a joint effort by the Louisiana State Police and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney André Jones is handling the prosecution.
