Ballston Spa, NY – Child pornography has become a rampant issue in the United States, with countless cases reported every year. The latest case involves Damian Quillinan, a 44-year-old man from Ballston Spa, New York, who pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography.
According to authorities, Quillinan admitted to downloading files containing child pornography from the Internet on July 29, 2016. He saved these files on his phone’s memory card. Furthermore, Quillinan admitted to downloading and storing over 14,000 child pornography videos and images on various computers and external hard drives in his residence between February 2014 and August 2016.
The case was jointly investigated by the FBI and New York State Police, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emmet O’Hanlon. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
Quillinan faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Upon his release from prison, Quillinan would also have to register as a sex offender.
United States District Judge Mae D’Agostino is scheduled to sentence Quillinan on March 13, 2018. The judge’s decision will be based on the particular statute Quillinan is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors.
