A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Utica, New York, as 56-year-old Daniel Beal pleaded guilty to distributing, receiving, and possessing child pornography. According to court documents, Beal used a Peer-to-Peer file sharing program to distribute images of child pornography, with investigators recovering thousands of images and hundreds of videos from his business, Dacobe Enterprises, LLC, on July 29, 2015.

As part of his guilty plea, Beal admitted to distributing child pornography through the file sharing program. This is a serious offense that carries significant penalties, and Beal is facing a minimum of five years and up to 20 years of imprisonment on each of the distribution and receipt counts. Additionally, he faces up to ten years of imprisonment on the possession counts. The Court will also impose a term of supervised release of between five years and life, and Beal will be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation into Beal’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown handling the prosecution. This case highlights the importance of efforts to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims.

The case against Beal is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) in May 2006. Project Safe Childhood aims to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Beal’s sentencing is scheduled for January 26, 2017, in Syracuse, New York. The Court will determine the final sentence based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors. This is a serious case that serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation.

The full extent of Beal’s activities is still coming to light, but one thing is clear: the distribution and possession of child pornography is a serious crime that carries severe penalties. As this case progresses, it will be crucial to ensure that justice is served and that the victims of this exploitation are protected and supported.

In the meantime, the community can take comfort in knowing that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to combat child exploitation and keep our children safe.
