Danny Lawrence Newton, Attempted Receipt of Child Pornography, Oklahoma 2024

A Broken Arrow Man’s Descent into Darkness:

Danny Lawrence Newton, a 43-year-old Broken Arrow man, has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for Attempted Receipt of Child Pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.

Newton’s downward spiral began in June 2024, when he initiated contact with a person on social media whom he believed was a 14-year-old minor. Court records show that Newton requested photos from the minor and engaged in conversations about having sex.

Newton’s intentions were clear: he arranged to meet the 14-year-old in person and drove to the address provided, where law enforcement detained him.

In a shocking display of moral decay, Newton showed no regard for the law or the well-being of the minor. His actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the safety and innocence of children.

U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III, sentenced Newton to 96 months in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release. Upon his release, Newton will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Robert prosecuted the case, while Homeland Security Investigations, the Skiatook Police Department, the Pryor Police Department, and the Tulsa Police Department investigated it as part of Operation Clean Sweep II.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
