Darius Williams Sentenced to 12 Years for Heroin Distribution
In a significant blow to the heroin trade in South Bend, Indiana, Darius Williams, 31, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for his role in distributing the deadly substance.
According to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana, David Capp, Williams was found guilty of distributing heroin, a crime that has ravaged the community with addiction and violence.
The investigation into Williams’ heroin trafficking activities began in September 2014, when the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit, the South Bend Police Department Metro Special Operations Section, the Indiana State Police, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms joined forces to tackle the issue.
Through the course of the investigation, investigators identified Williams as a key player in the heroin trade, operating in South Bend between 2013 and 2014. During a search of his residence, authorities found a loaded firearm, which was used in the course of his heroin dealing activities.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald J. Schmid, who worked tirelessly to bring Williams to justice. The conviction is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in the region.
Williams will serve 12 years in prison, followed by 6 years of supervised release. The sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of engaging in heroin trafficking and the devastating impact it has on communities.
