Indianapolis Man Sentenced to 57 Months in Federal Prison for Trafficking Heroin
In a harsh blow to the streets of Indianapolis, Darrion Elliott, 28, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin. The case unfolded on January 9, 2020, when Elliott’s parole officers arrived at a residence he claimed was his address, only to find him standing outside with no key.
During the search of his actual residence, authorities found 47 grams of heroin, a cutting agent for processing heroin, a digital scale, and plastic baggies. The discovery also led to the confiscation of three firearms: a loaded 9mm handgun, another 9mm handgun, a .25 caliber handgun, and a .45 caliber rifle.
Elliott, a repeat offender, has a serious criminal history spanning over a decade, which includes three prior felony convictions, all involving drugs and guns. As part of his guilty plea, Elliott admitted to possessing the heroin with the intent to distribute it.
The investigation was led by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, with valuable assistance provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker imposed the sentence, ordering Elliott to be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years following his release from federal prison.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers expressed gratitude to Assistant U.S. Attorney Abhishek S. Kambli for his role in prosecuting the case. The sentence is a significant blow to the ongoing efforts of heroin traffickers in the city, and a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies working together to reduce violent crime.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to develop effective, locally based strategies to reduce violent crime.
