David Gilliam Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison for Heroin Trafficking
A Luzerne County man has been sentenced to serve 60 months in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy in the county area. David Gilliam, 27, of Forty Fort, admitted to participating in the conspiracy to distribute heroin between January and November 2011.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, investigators seized 660 bags of heroin from a residence located on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort where Gilliam was residing in March 2011. The seizure was a significant blow to the heroin trafficking operation, which was active in the Luzerne County area during the specified timeframe.
The investigation into Gilliam’s activities was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the Kingston and Hanover Police Departments. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Robert J. O’Hara.
Gilliam’s sentence includes a 60-month prison term, as well as three years of supervised release following his prison sentence. The supervised release will be overseen by a probation officer, who will ensure that Gilliam complies with the terms of his release.
The heroin trafficking conspiracy in Luzerne County posed a significant threat to public safety, and Gilliam’s conviction is a significant victory for law enforcement and the community. The sentence sends a strong message that heroin trafficking will not be tolerated in our communities.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement agencies worked tirelessly to disrupt the heroin trafficking operation and bring those responsible to justice. The successful prosecution of Gilliam’s case is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the law enforcement agencies involved.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Munley has ordered that Gilliam be supervised by a probation officer for three years following his release from prison. This will ensure that Gilliam complies with the terms of his release and does not engage in further criminal activity.
The Luzerne County community can take comfort in knowing that the heroin trafficking operation has been significantly disrupted, and those responsible will face justice for their crimes.
