Pervert in San Diego Caught in Child Porn Ring

A San Diego man has been sentenced to serve 295 months in prison for his involvement in a child pornography ring. David Grummer, 44, was convicted by a federal jury on June 24, 2010, of 18 counts of receipt of child pornography and five counts of possession of child pornography.

Grummer was arrested on December 5, 2008, and has been detained ever since. He is also required to register as a sex offender and serve 15 years of supervised release following his prison term.

The case against Grummer originated from a joint investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into the illegal sale of chlordane and DDT on the Internet. During a search of his residence in Oceanside, California, forensic examiners discovered child pornography on one of the computer hard drives seized.

Further investigation revealed that Grummer had utilized file share programs to search for and download images depicting the sexual exploitation of children. The FBI Cyber Squad conducted an investigation that led to a second search warrant of the residence, where hundreds of images of child pornography were discovered on five separate hard drives.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Grummer’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alessandra P. Serano and Matthew J. Gardner for the Southern District of California and Trial Attorney LisaMarie Freitas of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). The case was investigated by the EPA and the FBI, with the assistance of the Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory and CEOS’ High Technology Investigative Unit.
