San Antonio Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Distributing Child Pornography

A former San Antonio resident has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. David Thayer Girard, 54, was handed down the sentence by United States District Judge Fred Biery.

Girard was charged with distributing child pornography after he uploaded numerous video and image files to the Internet. In December 2014, Girard gave the password to an electronic folder containing the child pornography to an FBI employee acting in an undercover capacity.

On August 2, 2017, Girard pleaded guilty to the charge. By pleading guilty, Girard admitted to uploading the child pornography files to the Internet.

The FBI conducted the investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Tracy Thompson prosecuting the case on behalf of the Government. United States Attorney John F. Bash and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs, San Antonio Division, announced the sentence.

As part of his sentence, Girard was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution and be placed on supervised release for the rest of his life after completing his prison term.

Girard’s sentence is a reminder of the severity of distributing child pornography. The crime is a serious offense that can have devastating consequences for victims.
