Dayton Man Sentenced to 150 Months for Child Pornography

Jonathan Gray, a 42-year-old Dayton man, has been handed a 150-month prison sentence for possessing child pornography while on probation for a similar conviction. Gray was found guilty of possessing over 1,360 images and more than 390 videos containing child pornography in August 2013.

Gray’s previous conviction was for a crime of abusive sexual conduct involving a minor and he was on probation at the time of the new offense. He pleaded guilty to the charges in May 2015 and was charged by indictment in June 2014.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Walter H. Rice and was announced by U.S. Attorney Carter M. Stewart, Angela L. Byers, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, and Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project is led by United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).

U.S. Attorney Stewart commended the cooperative investigation by the FBI and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Assistant United States Attorney Alex R. Sistla, who represented the United States in this case.

Gray’s sentence serves as a reminder that child pornography is a serious crime and those who engage in it will face severe consequences. The sentence is a result of the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who are committed to protecting children from exploitation.
