⏱ 3 min read

A DC man is facing 29 years behind bars for his role in a brazen carjacking spree that terrorized Southeast neighborhood residents in August 2022.

Jerome Israel, 22, pleaded guilty to armed and unarmed carjacking in Superior Court on August 5, 2025, and was sentenced by Judge Andrea Hertzfeld to 29 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

The carjackings occurred on August 20, 23, and 25, 2022, with Israel and an accomplice targeting three separate victims, including a woman unloading groceries from her car and a driver filling up at a gas station. In each case, the duo used a combination of guns and intimidation to steal the victims’ vehicles and personal belongings.

The evidence presented by prosecutors showed that Israel and his accomplice drove the stolen cars to separate gas stations, where they attempted to sell the vehicles and use the stolen credit cards to buy cash and other goods.

Israel’s sentencing marks the end of a years-long investigation into the carjacking ring, which was led by the FBI with assistance from the DEA and ATF.
