A high-speed chase on Rock Creek Parkway ended in catastrophe on March 15, 2023. Nakita Walker, 45, of Washington D.C., led a Park Police officer on a 100mph dash, then plowed into another car, killing its occupants: Lyft driver Mohamed Kamara and passengers Jonathan Alberto Cabrera Mendez and Olvin Josue Torres Velasquez.
Walker initially complied with the traffic stop but took off when the officer approached. She was arrested on May 22, 2023, and has been in custody since.
Her passenger was also assaulted with a dangerous weapon during the ordeal.
Walker’s recklessness left three families shattered. She faces a maximum sentence of 29.5 years in prison.
A Superior Court jury found Walker guilty of three counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of fleeing a law enforcement officer and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon of her passenger.
