WASHINGTON – A chilling case of child exploitation has erupted as 60-year-old District of Columbia psychotherapist Victor Renato Blythe faces federal charges for distributing and possessing child pornography. The grim revelation was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Blythe, who specializes in treating children and adolescents, previously worked at Children’s National Medical Center, according to the complaint. He is accused of communicating with another individual about his interest in the sexual abuse of children, distributing child pornography during these interactions, and possessing additional videos depicting child pornography on electronic devices.
The FBI Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Department, are investigating this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is prosecuting it as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood, launched by the Department of Justice in 2006, aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet. For those with information, contact the FBI at tips@fbi.gov.
Victor Renato Blythe is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
