Deejay White, a Chappaqua man, is facing severe consequences for his involvement in a brazen gunpoint robbery in the Bronx. The incident, which took place on May 29, 2019, targeted over 100 kilograms of cocaine, leaving several victims injured.
According to court filings and statements made during earlier court appearances, White and his co-conspirators forced entry into a Bronx apartment where the cocaine was stored, holding up the ten victims, including four children, at gunpoint. Two victims were pistol-whipped during the robbery, and a third sustained serious injuries after jumping out of the apartment’s third-floor window in an attempt to flee to safety.
White was arrested on November 25, 2019, on charges relating to the robbery and conspiracy to distribute the stolen cocaine. He was ordered detained and housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan. However, White continued to commit crimes while incarcerated, conspiring with his wife, Dawntiana White, to smuggle drugs and a firearm into the MCC.
As part of the conspiracy, White directed his wife to smuggle drugs to him in the MCC, which she did on multiple occasions. In or about January 2020, White conspired with his wife and others to have a firearm and drugs smuggled to him inside the MCC. After they successfully smuggled the firearm and contraband into the MCC, White confirmed to his wife that he had received the firearm.
White’s crimes did not go unnoticed. Bureau of Prisons officials discovered a contraband cellphone in his cell on February 26, 2020, and he was transferred to the Specialized Housing Unit (SHU). While in the SHU, White lied to a MCC investigator about his role in smuggling the firearm into the MCC and his possession of the firearm.
White has pled guilty to four-count superseding information charging him with offenses relating to the gunpoint robbery and conspiracy to smuggle contraband into the MCC. His wife, Dawntiana White, has also pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics, conspiracy to provide prison contraband, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She is scheduled to be sentenced on June 14, 2022.
Deejay White is scheduled to be sentenced on May 17, 2022. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams has stated that White’s actions placed inmates, staff, and court personnel in grave danger, and that individuals who are tempted to defy law and order should be on notice that the authorities will continue to work to identify and put an end to their alarming conduct and hold them accountable.
