Violence erupted in an Eagle Butte, South Dakota, home on August 24, 2016, when Delano White Eagle allegedly assaulted his dating partner, leaving her severely injured. The 46-year-old man has now faced justice for his heinous crime.
On April 10, 2017, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced White Eagle to 46 months in federal custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The defendant was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charges against White Eagle stemmed from a federal grand jury indictment on September 20, 2016. The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to Assault by Strangulation and Suffocation on January 24, 2017.
The assault occurred during an argument between White Eagle and his dating partner, who was left seriously injured. The case was investigated by the Ziebach County Sheriff’s Office and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller led the prosecution of the case. White Eagle was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
