A Connecticut man has been caught and convicted of distributing cocaine base in the state of Maine, according to court records.
Devonne Scott, 31, pleaded guilty to two instances of distributing a mixture or substance containing cocaine base in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
The guilty plea comes after a series of controlled buys conducted by a confidential informant in July and August 2023, in which the informant purchased suspected cocaine base from Scott.
The exchanges were monitored and videotaped by the FBI and law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lewiston Police Department. Laboratory tests confirmed that the purchased substances contained cocaine base.
As part of the plea agreement, Scott faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, followed by three years to life of supervised release. He also faces a fine of up to $1 million.
A federal district judge will determine the final sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Scott will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The FBI investigated the case, working closely with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lewiston Police Department to bring Scott to justice.
