Dezmin Meridith, Transportation of Child Pornography, Nebraska 2023

A Columbus man has been sentenced to 90 months imprisonment for his role in the transportation of child pornography.

Dezmin Meridith, 27, of Columbus, Nebraska, was sentenced on today in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, for Transportation of Child Pornography. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down the 90-month sentence.

There is no parole in the federal prison system, meaning Meridith will serve his full sentence without the possibility of early release. Following his release from prison, Meridith will be required to serve 10 years of supervised release and register as a sex offender. In addition, Meridith will pay $12,000 in restitution, as ordered by Chief Judge Rossiter.

The investigation into Meridith’s crimes began in May 2019, when the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a CyberTipline Report indicating that a Dropbox user had uploaded child pornography. Investigators identified Meridith as a suspect and determined that he had relocated from Omaha to Columbus.

Meridith admitted to purchasing packages of child pornography files on a chat application and then uploading them to Dropbox, according to investigators. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Omaha FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
