Hammaduzzaman Syed, Attempted Sex Trafficking of a Minor, Nebraska 2022

An Omaha man has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for attempting to sex traffic a minor.

Hammaduzzaman Syed, 34, was sentenced on July 26, 2022, by District Court Chief Judge Robert F. Rossiter after a jury found him guilty on March 22, 2022, following a day and a half jury trial.

Syed was found guilty of attempting to sex traffic a minor, with the crime dating back to November 17, 2020, when he responded to a fake advertisement on Skip the Games, a website commonly used for prostitution.

According to court documents, Syed began communicating with an undercover deputy who informed him that they were a 15-year-old female. Syed then arranged to meet who he believed to be a 15-year-old female for a half hour of sex for $100.

Syed traveled to the agreed-upon location with condoms and the agreed-upon $100 as per their text message conversation.

This case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as part of the FBI’s Child Enticement and Human Trafficking Task Force and was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Syed will serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
