Federal Judge Hands Down 11-Year Sentence to Cape Coral Man for Distributing Child Pornography
A U.S. District Judge has sentenced Dillon Shutt, a 26-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, to 11 years and 3 months in federal prison for distributing and possessing child pornography. The sentence was handed down on an unknown date in 2017.
According to court documents, Shutt used the KIK messenger app to convince an 11-year-old girl to send him images and videos of herself. He then posted those images to a website and advertised the link on a social media site.
Shutt pleaded guilty to the charges on August 8, 2017. As part of his plea, he admitted to possessing a total of 498 images and 36 videos on his cellphone depicting minors, as young as toddlers, being sexually abused.
The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Charles D. Schmitz.
This case is another example of the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the government to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
