DOJ Associate Attorney General Visits Alaska to Discuss Civil Rights
Grimy Times has learned that Associate Attorney General Tony West will visit Alaska next week to discuss the DOJ’s efforts to protect civil rights and strengthen public safety in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
On Monday, June 9, 2014 at 10:20 a.m. AKDT/2:20 p.m. EDT, West will deliver remarks at the National Congress of American Indians Mid-Year Conference held at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, located at 600 West Seventh Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska.
West’s speech is expected to focus on the DOJ’s efforts to address the high rates of violence and abuse against Native American children, including child abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence.
The conference is open to the press and members of the public, but all attendees must present government-issued photo ID and valid media credentials.
On Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. AKDT/5:00 p.m. EDT, West will deliver opening remarks at the fourth and final public hearing of the Advisory Committee of the Attorney General’s Task Force on American Indian and Alaska Native Children Exposed to Violence, held at the Sheraton Hotel’s Howard Rock Ballroom, located at 401 East Sixth Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska.
The hearing is also open to the press and members of the public, and will focus on the DOJ’s efforts to address the root causes of violence against Native American children.
