A 52-year-old man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to over 27 years in federal prison for his role in heroin distribution in the area. Donald Johnson, also known as ‘Scony’, was sentenced to 325 months’ imprisonment.
Johnson was involved in selling heroin in and around Cedar Rapids since at least 2015. He received gram quantities of heroin and broke them into smaller quantities for resale purposes. Johnson had multiple suppliers of heroin during his drug dealing activities.
Unfortunately, Johnson’s heroin distribution resulted in two victims suffering overdoses. Both were revived by medical personnel after being transported to the hospital. Tragically, one of these victims later died from a second overdose.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.
Johnson must serve a 3-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The sentencing took place on July 25, 2018, in Cedar Rapids. Johnson pleaded guilty to three counts of distribution of heroin, including two counts that caused serious bodily injury and one count that caused death. The guilty plea was entered on March 12, 2018.
Johnson’s full name is Donald Johnson, and he is 52 years old. He is originally from Chicago, Illinois, but was residing in Cedar Rapids at the time of his arrest. The exact date of his arrest is not specified in the report.
