DEL RIO, Texas — In a disturbing case of human smuggling, a McKinney man was sentenced to 30 months in prison for conspiring to transport undocumented noncitizens into the United States.
Draivon Rashon Dixon, 33, was found guilty by a jury on January 18, 2023, after he was arrested on July 26, 2022, near Carrizo Springs while driving an SUV. Agents from U.S. Border Patrol encountered three undocumented noncitizens hiding inside the vehicle, as well as a 9mm pistol and 18 rounds of ammunition.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Jaime Esparza, announced the sentencing, which brings an end to a case investigated by U.S. Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ekua Ayatra Assabill and Jayvee Rhoda.
This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of human smuggling and the consequences of those who engage in this illicit activity. The sentence handed down to Dixon sends a clear message that our justice system will not tolerate this type of crime.
