Keith L. Rayford, a 52-year-old Springfield, Missouri man, was at the helm of a large-scale drug trafficking operation that peddled millions of dollars’ worth of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and ecstasy. On June 8, 2023, officers with the Springfield Police Department caught a break in the case when they observed a suspicious transaction at a residence. The investigation led to the seizure of $21,004 in cash, methamphetamine, firearms, and other paraphernalia. Rayford’s operation involved at least three other co-conspirators, including Ted Tyson, Corey Williams, and Shannon Wells.
As the investigation unfolded, officers executed search warrants at multiple residences, including Corey Williams’ home, where they found approximately 97.76 grams of cocaine. The evidence mounted against Rayford, who ultimately pleaded guilty on August 6, 2025, to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
Rayford’s sentencing was severe, with U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes handing down a 25-year sentence without parole. However, because Rayford committed the offense while on federal supervised release following a prior federal drug trafficking conviction, he received an additional five years in federal prison without parole, bringing the total sentence to 30 years.
The case highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in Missouri and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle these organizations. Rayford’s conviction and sentencing serve as a warning to others involved in the illicit drug trade.
