A Shawnee resident has pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge stemming from a violent incident in Okfuskee County.
Dustin James Coggins, 34, entered a guilty plea to an Indictment charging him with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country.
The Indictment alleged that on August 2, 2024, Coggins assaulted the victim with a dangerous weapon, intending to do bodily harm.
The crime occurred in Okfuskee County, within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Okemah Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Coggins will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing, after the Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Soverly and Michael E. Robinson represented the United States.
The defendant’s current status is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
