Wacey James Long, Possession of Unregistered Firearm, SD 2023

Two residents of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, are facing serious charges after being indicted by a federal grand jury for firearms violations. Wacey James Long, 29, and Shawnda Cyrene Dupris, 31, were charged with Possession of an Unregistered Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

The indictment against the duo was filed on February 15, 2017, and they appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on February 17, 2017. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the Indictment, Long and Dupris were found in possession of a shotgun firearm with a barrel length under 18 inches and an overall length under 26 inches, which was not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record database. The investigation into this case is being led by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services Narcotics Division, in collaboration with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney SaraBeth Donovan is handling the prosecution.

Long has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, while Dupris was released pending trial. The trial date is set for April 18, 2017.
