CLEVELAND, OH – Mark A. Lloyd, 31, of East Cleveland, is facing federal charges after allegedly robbing two banks on West 25th Street earlier this year. The brazen daylight heists left tellers shaken and now Lloyd is facing the consequences, according to Acting U.S. Attorney David A. Sierleja and FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony.
The first robbery took place on January 30th at the Ohio Savings Bank, where Lloyd allegedly made off with $918. He didn’t stop there. Just two weeks later, on February 13th, Lloyd targeted the PNC bank, this time netting a significantly larger haul of $4,238, according to the indictment handed down this week. The FBI and Cleveland Police have been building their case since.
Lloyd’s run ended abruptly on February 17th at Cleveland City Hall. A police officer working security detail recognized him – and a distinctive mark. Court documents detail that the officer specifically identified a tattoo of a gun located directly underneath Lloyd’s right eye. That visual ID was enough to bring him in for questioning, and ultimately, arrest.
Federal prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elliot D. Morrison and Megan Miller, will now build their case for conviction. While an indictment signifies a serious accusation, it’s crucial to remember it’s not proof of guilt. Lloyd is entitled to a full and fair trial, where the government bears the burden of proving his involvement beyond a reasonable doubt.
