Efthimiatos, Methamphetamine Distribution, Des Moines IA, 2013

A federal judge in Des Moines, Iowa, has handed down a 10-year sentence to 33-year-old Efthimiatos, a convicted methamphetamine distributor.

On January 17, 2014, Efthimiatos, of Des Moines, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge James E. Gritzner after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of distribution of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Efthimiatos was involved in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution ring that operated in the Des Moines area. The ring was responsible for distributing hundreds of grams of methamphetamine to users and dealers in the area.

The investigation into Efthimiatos and his co-conspirators was led by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, with assistance from the Des Moines Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Murphy.

Efthimiatos’ sentence, which includes 10 years of imprisonment, is in line with federal guidelines for methamphetamine distribution and conspiracy charges. The sentence also includes a 5-year term of supervised release following his release from prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors in securing the conviction and sentence in the case.
