Henry Eichman, Producing and Possessing Child Pornography, Maine 2024

PORTLAND, Maine – Henry Eichman, 65, of Topsham, Maine, will spend the next two decades behind bars for the horrific exploitation of children. Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker handed down the 20-year sentence today, followed by a lifetime of supervised release, after Eichman pleaded guilty on December 10, 2024, to producing and possessing child pornography.

The case unraveled in August 2022 when a sharp-eyed employee of a Brunswick landscaping company stumbled upon a hidden stash: two laptops and multiple hard drives secreted beneath a kayak on company property. The employee, recognizing Eichman – a former employee – in some of the files, immediately alerted authorities. A forensic examination by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) revealed a sickening trove of over 500 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.

Investigators discovered that the material documented Eichman’s depravity between 2014 and 2016, showing him setting up recording devices and actively participating in the sexual abuse of minor victims, all under the age of 12. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is rightfully shielding the identities of the young victims, recognizing the further trauma that public identification would inflict.

This federal sentence isn’t Eichman’s first brush with the law regarding child sexual abuse. He previously entered an Alford plea in state court in 2018 and is currently serving a 10-year sentence for similar crimes. He will begin serving this 20-year federal sentence only after completing his state prison term – a chilling testament to the breadth of his offenses.

HSI spearheaded the investigation, receiving crucial support from the Topsham and Brunswick Police Departments. The case was brought forth under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to aggressively combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This isn’t just about locking up predators; it’s about rescuing victims and dismantling the networks that enable this horrific crime.

The sheer volume of child sexual abuse material circulating online is staggering. In 2023 alone, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a staggering 36 million reports of such content. If you encounter or suspect the possession, distribution, or production of child pornography, report it immediately to NCMEC at report.cybertip.org or by calling 1-800-843-5678. In Maine, victims of sexual assault or abuse can find help on the 24-hour statewide helpline at 1-800-871-7741. Remember, viewing this material isn’t a victimless crime – it perpetuates the abuse.
