The couple allegedly told victims they won multi-million-dollar prizes and instructed them to provide tens of thousands of dollars as upfront taxes and fees. The scam, which began on an unknown date and continued until April 2026, was uncovered by federal agents in Florida.
The indictment states that scam participants would falsely inform victims of their winnings and demand payment to collect the prizes. The Calverts pleaded not guilty to the charges and were detained pending trial by United States Magistrate Judge Sean A. Camoni.
