Polk County Man Sentenced To 14 Years In Prison For Possessing Child Pornography
A Polk County man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography, according to a recent court ruling. Eleftherios Zachariadis, 47, of Lake Alfred, was found guilty of possessing the illicit material and will serve his 14-year sentence.
The investigation into Zachariadis began when an undercover agent downloaded multiple images of child pornography from his Internet Protocol (IP) address. On September 9, 2013, law enforcement officers seized his computer, thumb drive, and a DVD pursuant to a federal search warrant.
A forensic examination of the seized items revealed that Zachariadis had been possessing child pornography for at least seven years. The investigation uncovered over 1,000 images and 200 videos of child pornography, including files that depicted prepubescent minors, bondage, and sadomasochistic conduct.
Zachariadis pleaded guilty to the charges on January 9, 2014. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer L. Peresie. It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
