Anthony Layton Moody, 27, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for the distribution of child pornography, marking a grim end to a case rooted in the sexual exploitation of the most vulnerable.
On August 14, 2020, Moody appeared before the Honorable Clifton L. Corker in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville. He pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography, admitting to a pattern of downloading, trading, and sharing disturbing images and videos depicting infants and toddlers being sexually victimized.
A federal search warrant executed in November 2019 at Moody’s residence uncovered over 1,500 images of child pornography stored on his computer and cell phone. The evidence was flagged after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) alerted the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to ongoing downloads from the home.
During questioning, Moody confessed to possessing the material and admitted he had spent a year distributing and trading it with hundreds of individuals online. His admissions painted a chilling picture of deliberate, sustained criminal behavior targeting children.
As part of his sentence, Moody will serve 20 years of supervised release following his prison term and is required to pay $15,000 in restitution to victims. He must also register as a sex offender in any state where he lives, works, or studies, and comply with stringent monitoring conditions.
The case was investigated by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and HSI, led by Special Agent Travis Carrier, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Parker. It was brought under Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation through coordinated federal, state, and local efforts.
