Embezzlement Scheme Lands Former Office Manager in Prison
A decade-long embezzlement scheme has finally come to an end for Roseanna Coomes, the former office manager of Cole Truck Parts in Bluefield, West Virginia. Coomes, 67, of Bluefield, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for her role in embezzling over $969,000 from her employer.
According to the investigation, Coomes executed the wire fraud scheme from January 2007 to mid-2017. She wrote checks to herself and another person, disguising them by making false entries into the company’s accounts. Coomes also made false statements on her tax returns for numerous years by not reporting the embezzled income.
“Unbelievable. Coomes embezzled almost $1 million from her employer,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “As a result of the great work of law enforcement, her employer will receive restitution and Coomes is going to prison.”
Coomes agreed to pay restitution in the amount of $969,316.68 to Cole Truck Parts and $64,330.10 to the Internal Revenue Service. The Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations and the Bluefield Police Department conducted the investigation.
Former Assistant United States Attorney Meredith Thomas and Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess handled the prosecution. Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber imposed the sentence.
Roseanna Coomes’ embezzlement scheme has left her former employer with a significant financial loss. However, thanks to the efforts of law enforcement, Cole Truck Parts will receive the restitution they deserve.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the consequences of committing financial crimes. The sentence handed down to Coomes is a result of her own actions, and it is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in bringing white-collar criminals to justice.
