ST. LOUIS – U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey on Tuesday delivered a stern 15-year prison term to Eric Michael Swancutt, a registered sex offender who was apprehended in a Missouri halfway house with child sexual abuse material.

In 2017, Swancutt was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography. Now, the 46-year-old faces the brunt of justice once again following his release from prison.

The shocking discovery came on Aug. 17, 2022, when a staff member at the residential reentry center near Farmington, Missouri, discovered a cell phone hidden in Swancutt’s sock during a routine pat down. A court-approved search of the phone revealed child pornography and evidence that Swancutt had actively searched for more.

Swancutt pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography in U.S. District Court in St. Louis earlier this year. The FBI led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Chapman handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Through this initiative, federal, state, and local resources are pooled to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online.
