A 64-year-old New Orleans woman has admitted to her role in a massive healthcare fraud scheme.
Evelyn Odoms, a licensed practical nurse, pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting health care fraud in a federal court on Tuesday.
According to court documents, Odoms was involved in a scheme that billed Medicare for approximately $30,052,295 in false claims.
Odoms worked for a home health care provider, ABIDE, and was responsible for teaching patients how to treat and handle certain diagnoses.
However, Odoms failed to observe the patient’s symptoms and never taught the patient about the diagnoses, instead, she falsified documentation that Medicare relied upon to regulate providers.
Odoms faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The sentencing is set for October 28, 2015, in U.S. District Court.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating this matter.
