Facebook Threats Convict Sentenced to Supervised Release

Matthew Dean Adams, a Fairhope man, has been sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to making interstate threatening communications.

According to court documents, Adams contacted his ex-girlfriend’s husband in Orange Beach, Alabama, via phone and Facebook Messenger in January 2018, threatening to kill him and his son.

Adams sent a chilling message that read: “I’m coming brother, say goodbye to your [son]…”. He also sent a photo of himself holding an assault rifle.

Law enforcement confirmed that Adams was outside of Alabama when he sent the threatening messages to his victims within the state.

The Orange Beach Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Sean Costello and Christopher Baugh prosecuting the case.

Adams was sentenced by United States District Court Judge William H. Steele on August 14, 2018, to three years of supervised release, with no contact with his victims.

Adams has been incarcerated since February 22, 2018, and will now serve the remainder of his sentence under supervision.
