Fake Cash Kingpin Nabbed
A 47-year-old Lake City man is behind bars after being charged with manufacturing and passing counterfeit U.S. currency, authorities announced. James Steven Hall is accused of creating and distributing fake cash in Columbia County, Florida.
According to federal authorities, Hall’s counterfeiting operation was in full swing from February to March 2015. He allegedly passed off the fake cash to unsuspecting victims during that time.
The indictment charges Hall with manufacturing and passing counterfeit federal reserve notes, which could land him in prison for up to 40 years if convicted.
Hall was arraigned on May 19, 2015, and released on bond. However, he is scheduled to face trial in July 2015.
The case was investigated by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Secret Service, with Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein set to prosecute.
An indictment is merely a formal charge, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of being vigilant when it comes to counterfeit currency.
As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Hall’s alleged counterfeiting operation was a solo endeavor or part of a larger scheme.
