CONCORD – Grimy Times has learned that a disturbing case of child sexual exploitation has reached its federal courtroom phase. Michael F.J. Murphy, a 45-year-old resident of Farmington, New Hampshire, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack.
Murphy’s sentencing is scheduled for October 14, 2025, with the possibility of facing up to 20 years in federal prison due to the nature of the charges against him. The investigation revealed that Murphy shared a video depicting child sexual abuse material using a file-sharing platform in December 2023.
The severity of the offense is not lost on the judicial system; the charging statute outlines penalties ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment and fines up to $250,000. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Rombeau will be leading the prosecution.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Idaho Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit spearheaded the investigation, receiving valuable assistance from the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the United Kingdom South East Regional Crime Unit, and the Farmington Police Department.
This case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, a justice department initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. The site https://www.justice.gov/psc provides more information on this nationwide effort.
