Tyler Ray Thompson, Involuntary Manslaughter, Oklahoma 2024

⏱ 2 min read

Tyler Ray Thompson, a 29-year-old Chouteau man, drove impaired and caused a fatal car wreck in March 2024, killing his significant other, Nancy Moore. The incident occurred when Thompson, who had never held a valid driver’s license, attempted to drive on a busy highway after consuming methamphetamine and marijuana. He failed to stop at a red light and struck the rear end of a tractor-trailer, resulting in Moore’s death from blunt force trauma.

The investigation revealed that Thompson had a history of substance abuse and had been released on bond prior to the sentencing. However, he violated the terms of his pretrial release in July and was taken into custody. Court documents show that Thompson tested positive for marijuana and amphetamines multiple times while awaiting sentencing.

Thompson pleaded guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter in Indian Country and was sentenced to 64 months’ imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the FBI, Pryor Police Department, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Dunn prosecuting the case.

Thompson, a citizen of the Muskogee Creek Nation, will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. The sentencing brings closure to the case, but highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of seeking help for substance abuse.
