MINNEAPOLIS – Three more crooks have copped to their roles in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, a scandal that has bilked millions from federal child nutrition programs. Mahad Ibrahim, 46, Hamdi Hussein Omar, 29, and Hibo Salah Daar, 51, are now facing justice after admitting their guilt.
Ibrahim, who founded ThinkTechAct Foundation (a/k/a Mind Foundry Learning Foundation), defrauded the program by allowing his organization to be used in the scheme, despite knowing full well what was going on. He even laundered some of the proceeds into real estate deals. Ibrahim pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering.
Omar is accused of creating a fake food distribution site in Waite Park, Minnesota, claiming to feed thousands of children daily, when in reality, it was just another con job. Omar’s scheme resulted in a $1.4 million loss to taxpayers and she too pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
Daar, through her Northside Wellness Center Corporation, enrolled in the program under false pretenses, further contributing to the fraud crisis in Minnesota. Her involvement has yet to be fully detailed in this report.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson hailed the convictions as an extraordinary achievement by law enforcement, noting that their pursuit of justice had been relentless. ‘This team is nowhere near finished,’ he said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also praised its role in securing 50 convictions to date, emphasizing its commitment to holding accountable those who steal funds meant for underprivileged children. Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. stated that taxpayers deserve assurance their contributions are used responsibly and lawfully.
