Used Car Dealer Manager Sentenced for Odometer Tampering in San Antonio

Felipe Alcibar, 62, the primary party responsible for the day-to-day operations of Autotex Financial, a used car dealership in San Antonio, was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to pay more than $260,000 in restitution for odometer tampering.

The scheme began no later than October 2020 and continued until at least November 2023, with Alcibar knowingly and intentionally disconnecting, resetting, or altering the odometers on multiple vehicles purchased by Autotex and advertised for sale to the general public.

Alcibar was charged in a one-count information filed on October 8, 2024, and pleaded guilty on October 30, 2024. The sentence, handed down by a federal court, includes a six-month prison term and a restitution order of $264,747.05.

Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas made the announcement, while the Department of Transportation Office of Odometer Fraud investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Chung prosecuted the case.

According to court documents, Alcibar’s actions constituted a serious breach of trust, as he took advantage of unsuspecting customers by inflating the mileage of vehicles sold to them. The restitution order reflects the total amount of damages suffered by the victims, who were left to deal with the consequences of Alcibar’s actions.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in business dealings, particularly in industries where customers rely on accurate information to make informed decisions.
