Felipe Martinez-Rivera Sentenced for Illegal Re-Entry
A 50-year-old Mexican national has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for re-entering the United States after being deported and previously convicted of a felony.
Felipe Martinez-Rivera re-entered the country after he was previously deported on November 9, 1998. He was also convicted of illegal possession of less than one gram of cocaine in Harris County Texas on May 18, 2010, a felony under Texas law.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Irene Gonzalez.
U.S. District Court Judge Sarah S. Vance handed down the sentence, which includes 14 months of imprisonment, 1 year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment.
Martinez-Rivera’s crimes highlight the ongoing issue of deported aliens re-entering the country and committing further crimes.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Louisiana will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to bring these individuals to justice and protect the community.
