Eric Rogers, a 35-year-old New Orleans man, was caught with a stolen firearm at his residence on October 10, 2024, after fleeing from law enforcement. Rogers, who had an outstanding warrant, attempted to evade arrest but eventually surrendered after an ATF special agent instructed him to exit the house with his shirt off and hands raised. A search of the residence uncovered a stolen Sig Sauer, Model SP2022, .40 caliber pistol concealed among pots and pans beneath the kitchen sink.
Rogers knew he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous felony conviction. On June 16, 2026, he was sentenced to 92 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee by United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) special operations division. United States Attorney David I. Courcelle praised the work of these agencies, which led to the successful prosecution of Rogers.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting communities from violent crime. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell of the Violent Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
