A 21-year-old Butler, Pennsylvania resident, Robert Schatzman, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon. The crime occurred in April 2025, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Schatzman’s home and found a Glock pistol hidden in a floor air vent in his bedroom. Schatzman had previously been convicted of robbery in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm under federal law. The search was part of a larger investigation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Stowe Township Police Department, McKees Rocks Police Department, and Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Schatzman’s sentence is a result of the successful prosecution by Assistant United States Attorneys Douglas C. Maloney and Kelly M. Locher.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods across the United States. The program brings together law enforcement agencies and community organizations to prevent violence and make neighborhoods safer. In this case, the collaboration between federal and local law enforcement led to the successful prosecution of Schatzman and the removal of a prohibited firearm from the community.
United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended the agencies involved in the investigation, citing the importance of collaboration in reducing violent crime. The sentencing of Robert Schatzman serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearm laws, particularly for those with prior convictions. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to reduce gun violence and make communities safer.
