Felon Caught with Cache of Firearms
A 31-year-old Davenport man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt.
Ricardo Torres, of Davenport, Iowa, was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his imprisonment, and to pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund.
The charges stem from a March 5, 2014, incident in which Torres was found in possession of four firearms: a Jiminez Arms, J. A. NINE 9mm handgun; a HWM Windicator .38/.357 caliber revolver; a American Tactical GSG-522, .22 caliber rifle; and a Mossberg, Model 500A 12 gauge shotgun.
This case was investigated by the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Torres pleaded guilty on October 29, 2014, to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey on April 3, 2015.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
This sentence serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon is a serious crime with severe consequences.
