Jackson County Man Arrested with Stolen Firearm

Gulfport, Miss. – Ledarrius Jamontaie Forrest, 30, of Moss Point, has pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Kurt Thielhorn, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

On August 21, 2020, Forrest was arrested after a state search warrant was served at a Moss Point residence where he was the sole occupant. During the search, a Norinco, Model MAK90 Sporter, 7.62 rifle, ammunition, and narcotics were found. The firearm was reported stolen.

Forrest has two state felony convictions from the Circuit Court of Jackson County. He was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to serve three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Jackson County Metro Enforcement Task Force, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stan Harris is prosecuting the case.

Forrest’s sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5, 2021. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If he is determined to be an Armed Career Criminal, a higher maximum penalty of 15 years to life can apply.

The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which aims to reduce violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with locally based prevention and reentry programs.
