Phillip Brad Curtis, a 52-year-old Republic, Missouri man with a history of violent crime, was sentenced to 110 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred when deputies from the Barry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing report near Aurora, Missouri, and Curtis threatened to kill them, displaying a firearm during an eight-hour standoff. Curtis has prior felony convictions for robbery, domestic assault, and possession of a controlled substance. The sentencing took place in federal court, with U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips handing down the 110-month prison term, followed by three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Barry County Sheriff’s Office. According to court documents, Curtis was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered from inside a dog-food bag inside the residence.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica R. Eatmon, as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and transnational criminal organizations.
