Jordan Derrick, Manufacturing Explosives, Missouri 2026

⏱ 2 min read

Jordan Derrick, 40, of Sweet Springs, Missouri, has been charged with manufacturing explosives, possessing unregistered destructive devices, and distributing information related to explosives. The charges stem from his alleged use of social media to share videos of himself making various explosive materials, including detonators and TNT, between September 18, 2023, and May 4, 2026. Derrick’s videos provided step-by-step instructions on how to make these explosives, which were later used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar in a New Orleans attack on January 1, 2025.

Derrick’s online tutorials were downloaded from his publicly available video sharing accounts and used by Jabbar to create IEDs. The devices placed by Jabbar did not detonate and were rendered safe by law enforcement. Additionally, an explosion occurred at a private residence in Odessa, Missouri, on May 4, 2026, where investigators found components suspected of being used in explosive devices.

The occupant of the residence told investigators that he manufactured explosive devices after watching online tutorials on a social media account believed to be used by Derrick. The complaint alleges that Derrick engaged in the business of manufacturing explosive materials without a license, possessed an unregistered destructive device, and distributed information relating to manufacturing explosives.

The charges against Derrick highlight the dangers of online platforms being used to distribute information related to explosives and the importance of law enforcement agencies monitoring these platforms to prevent such activities.
