Dara S. O’Connor, a 30-year-old Kansas City woman, attempted to destroy a warehouse on Botts Road in Kansas City, Missouri, by fire on February 12, 2026. O’Connor threw two incendiary devices, commonly known as Molotov cocktails, at the building, which had been considered for purchase by the federal government to house illegal aliens during their removal proceedings. The devices shattered, and O’Connor used fire to ignite the flammable liquid, starting a fire that was eventually extinguished.
O’Connor’s actions were caught on video by news agencies that were reporting on the failed real estate transaction. After initiating the fire, O’Connor sat on a nearby curb, used her cellular phone, and then left the area in her vehicle.
O’Connor pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly possessing two destructive devices that were not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. She waived indictment and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough.
The case highlights the dangers of unregistered destructive devices and the potential for violent crime in the community. O’Connor’s guilty plea is a result of the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, ATF, and ICE.
