A 56-year-old St. Louis man, Harold Paul White, has admitted to committing horrific sex crimes against a 12-year-old girl from Michigan. White met the girl on social media, then drove to Michigan to pick her up, bringing her back to his apartment in St. Louis, where he engaged in illegal sex acts with her. The crimes occurred when White recorded the acts with his phone, and only ended when the victim realized she had been reported missing, prompting White to buy her a bus ticket back home.
White’s guilty plea to one count of interstate travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct was entered in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. His sentencing is scheduled for July 31, with both sides agreeing to recommend 15 years in prison.
The FBI and local police investigated the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched by the Department of Justice in 2006.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Dianna Edwards is prosecuting the case, which highlights the dark reality of online predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation.
